As the maestro of the Annual Barn Dance benefiting the Santa Ynez Valley Historical Museum on a recent Saturday night, Monte drew hordes of boot scooters, swing dancers, line dancers, and two-steppers, both novices and seasoned, into the infectious world of country music that adds a whole lotta old-timey soul to the Central Coast experience.

One of the Bees at SYV Buzz attended Cal Poly SLO back in the day and remembers Monte’s stage persona and crazy antics that even Monte laughs about. “Nah, I don’t do those things anymore—they probably wouldn’t fly today, plus Kathy keeps me a happily married man!”

Monte’s musical journey extends beyond the local scene, having performed for luminaries, politicians, and entertainers like Kenny Rogers, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Monte Montana, and former President Reagan. His influence reaches far and wide, evident in his role as a record producer for emerging country talents on his independent label, Lucky Horseshoe Records.

With numerous albums under his belt, Monte Mills is a dynamic force in the country music scene. Yet, the true grit of it all lies in experiencing Monte live.
