Four Brothers Debuts The Only Single-Vineyard Picpoul Blanc in Los Olivos
Attention adventurous wine lovers! Four Brothers Wine Co., a boutique winery rooted in family and passion for the great outdoors, has unveiled its first-ever single-vineyard Picpoul Blanc. The grapes, sourced locally from Santa Ynez Vineyard in the Happy Canyon AVA, mark an exciting new chapter for this family-run winery known for their commitment to community, quality and innovation.
The Inspiration Behind the Bottle
The decision to produce Picpoul Blanc came after Carisa Blasman, wife of co-owner Chris Blasman, fell in love with the varietal during a wine-tasting adventure in Sonoma, California. "Carisa really wanted us to make Picpoul, so we started the hunt for a vineyard producing it," Chris shared. They found their perfect match at Santa Ynez Vineyard, acquiring three rows of grapes (about 3 tons), which roughly translates to 150 cases of white wine goodness.
About Picpoul Blanc
Picpoul Blanc, a white Rhône varietal, is typically used as a blending grape, prized for its bright acidity and ability to elevate red wines like Syrah and Grenache. However, Four Brothers Wine Co. decided to spotlight the grape's vibrant character on its own, aging it in stainless steel for five months to preserve its crisp, refreshing profile.
Tasting Notes
The Four Brothers Picpoul is a dry, slightly tart, light white with flavors of lemon zest, pineapple, and guava. It’s ideal for sunny days by the pool, picnics, or pairing with shellfish (think oysters on ice). Known in France as a staple white, Picpoul Blanc is celebrated for its versatility, making it a delightful alternative to more common varietals like Sauvignon Blanc.
Why It’s Special
With only 33 acres of Picpoul Blanc planted in California, this varietal remains a rarity. Four Brothers Wine Co. is currently the only tasting room in Los Olivos offering a single-vineyard Picpoul Blanc, further solidifying their reputation as pioneers in the region.
A Nod to Tradition and Family
The Four Brothers story is one of love, passion, and craftsmanship. From their logo—symbolizing their shared values and personalities—to their commitment to producing high-quality wines, every bottle tells a story of adventure and connection.
